Documentary Screening: The Smog of the Sea

October 12, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Join EcoPel and Coastal Living Magazine for a one-time Picture House screening of The Smog of the Sea, a documentary about plastic waste in the oceans featuring musician/surfer Jack Johnson.

The event coincides with the October issue of Coastal Living, which celebrates scientists, advocates, visionaries, and deep sea legends who are fighting to protect our seas from peril.

After the screening, Hillary Hauser, founder and director of Heal the Ocean, the California-based citizen action group responsible for cleaning up the previously toxic waters along the Santa Barbara coastline, will speak about her organization’s work.

“It’s easy to think that the ocean is so vast it can take care of itself,” Johnson says. “But that’s really not the case anymore, as I’ve come to learn when I travel and talk with these experts. When the expeditions are completed, or when we speak away from the cameras, our conversation continues—and it’s a conversation I hope you’ll join.”

Prior to the film, you’ll get to preview the works and words of every “Ocean Hero” who made the magazine’s list, plus meet a new youth group — Pelham Eliminates Plastics, or PEP — that aims to tackle the plastic waste problem locally.

Co-sponsor Ecopel is giving each audience member a reusable cotton tote bag with a complimentary copy of the October issue of Coastal Living, along with Jack Johnson branded bamboo serving sets, Kleen Kanteen reusable water bottles, Grime Boss biodegradable wipes, and other gifts.

Tickets to the The Picture House film event are $15 for general admission and $12 for students and seniors. Tickets are available through The Picture House website or at the box office, 175 Wolfs Lane, Pelham, NY 10803.
